Our wells

Here you can take a look at the presentation of our wells. In the list there are also two foundlings - wells built by our predecessors. They were out of service for a long time, our people repaired them and provide their service.

Our work does not stop at drilling wells. We provide a long-term maintenance of our wells and try to get the locals involved in their service.

Location:
Soices Moual (Mare Rouge)
GPS:
lat: 19.83394, lng: -73.29659
Status:
put into operation 1. 8. 2014
Depth:
7 m
The well is located in the settlement of Soices Moual about two kilometres from the northern coast of the department of Nord-Ouest. From larger settlements there is a nearby town of Mare Rouge (in the direction of southeast). The settlement is in a lonely place on a mild slope far from the road. In order to reach the place with heavy equipment, the villagers had to create some space between the bushes and cactuses. Near the well there is the original source of water - about a two-meter shaft, from the bottom of which people used to scoop water from a puddle (see photo). One person would climb into the shaft, scoop the water with a bowl and pour it into a larger container. Yield rate was very low and the quality of the water bad.

The borehole is seven meters deep. It has a great abundance and provides with water the entire village. It is fitted with a hand pump India. The site was recommended to us as much needed by Italian missionaries of Mare Rouge.

The construction of this well was supported by an amount of 6500 USD by a donor from the Czech Republic who is a member of the Club of Friends. She decided to call the well by the name of Francis to honour the Pope, who through his actions inspired her to do this good deed.

The drilling mission, during which this well was built, was financially supported by the organization Food For The Poor.

Depth:
10 m
The well is situated among small fields on the outskirts of the settlement of Bassin Hardy. It is located about ten kilometres southeast of Ti Riviere (direction of Anse Rouge) at an altitude of 250m. For the residents it is the only local source of water.

The well is ten meters deep and is fitted with a hand pump India. The site was recommended to us as much needed by an Italian missionary of Ti Riviere. Due to the loose rock, it was necessary to carry out continuous shoring of the bore with steel pipes. The first borehole was problematic; success came through with a second borehole. The spring is at an altitude of about seven meters.

The construction of this well was supported by an amount of 7500 USD by an individual donor from the Czech Republic.

The drilling mission, during which this well was built, was financially supported by the organization Food For The Poor.

26. Maya

Location:
Nan Vincent (Jean Rabel)
GPS:
lat: 19.87305, lng: -73.18348
Status:
put into operation 31. 7. 2014
Depth:
14 m
The well is located on the outskirts of the village Nan Vincent near the town Jean Rabel. Nan Vincent is an entirely new settlement resulting from the relocation of the population of the original settlement in the nearby hills, which was completely destroyed several times by floods.

The well is 14 meters deep and has an abundant spring. Unfortunately, even though the well is several miles away from the sea, the water is slightly salty and is used only as a non-potable water. Therefore, we are planning a new well located on a higher site behind the settlement in order to provide it with drinking water.

The construction of this well was supported by the amount of 6500 USD by the Czech project Reading helps. The name of the well was chosen by young readers through online voting.
The drilling mission, during which this well was built, was financially supported by the organization Food For The Poor.

Depth:
9 m
Fishing commune of La Pierre is located along the road from Gonaives to Anse Rouge. During our travels we discovered by chance a well fitted with a pump India. It was out of operation for many years. Local people did not know who built the well and when. We repaired the well and named it Sarka. In the immediate vicinity there are the dwellings of villagers. The well is a few dozen meters from the sea.

In the village the well Sarka is one of the two sources of drinking water. The second source is a natural spring that has good water, but it is located about 2km from this part of the village.

The well Sarka is ten meters deep and has a rich source of quality drinking water. We regularly carry out its inspection and servicing.

Depth:
37 m
The village of Sou-pont lies about 5 km west of Bombardopolis at an altitude of 450 m. The site is in a green valley at the crossroads, hardly accessible with our equipment.

The well is the only source of water for the village, which has about 2,000 inhabitants. Before the well was put into operation, local people had to walk to the water stream through rough terrain. The journey there and back took three hours. Moreover, without any certainty that water will be available. The well was originally fitted with a foot pump. Since 2016 a new hand pump India has been put into operation.

Drilling of this well had a dramatic course, which is aptly described in the work diary: "At a depth of 5 to 8 meters the borehole keeps filling with black gravel but we continue. At a depth of 38 m the hammer jams and cannot move. We pour soapy water into the borehole. We try to spin the string with a hydraulic arm from the truck. We are exhausted, there are about one hundred local spectators around us. We finish at one o'clock in the morning. The next day we try to pull out the rods with the help of hydraulic legs of the truck, but in vain. When pulling, the four-ton chain snapped. In the evening we drill with a second hammer around jammed rods that stick out of the ground. On the third day in the afternoon the string becomes loose and water starts spouting from the borehole. That is why we name the well Third day." The well is 37 meters deep, the water column is 11 meters.

The drilling mission, during which the well Third day was built, was financially supported by a permanent UN mission in Haiti, Minustah.

Depth:
64 m
The settlement of Citerne Remy is situated about 15 kilometers east of Bombardopolis on the road linking this village with Baie-de-Henne. The area has an altitude of approximately 350 m. Due to inaccessible hilly landscape, it is largely cut off from the more populated areas. The well Magdalena is one of the main sources of drinking water in Citerne Remy and the surroundings.

Drilling work took place in the spring of 2011. In one day we managed to drill 27 rods (82 meters), but we didn´t reach the water. There appeared only minor leaks, but the borehole was lagged for safety reasons to the depth of 64 metres. During the spring 2012 mission inspection of the well was carried out. Surprisingly, we measured a thirty-meter water column. For that reason, concreting and fitting of the pump followed. The amount of water depends on rainfall which is the weakest during late summer. The original foot pump was replaced in 2016 by a hand pump India.

The drilling mission, during which the well Magdalena was built, was financially supported by the St. Elizabeth College of Health and Social Work.

3. Etela

Location:
Rivierre Henne (Baie-de-Henne)
GPS:
lat: 19.685395, lng: -73.236939
Status:
put into operation 22. 2. 2011
Depth:
61 m
The village of Rivière Henne is located near the coastal village of Baie-de-Henne. The well is located on a slope near the road from Baie-de-Henne to Bombardopolis. The surrounding landscape is made of deforested hills covered with bushes, grass and agave. The residents of the village of Rivière Henne used to walk to Baie - de - Henne (about 5 km) to get water. Thanks to the construction of the well Etela they got their own source of drinking water.

Drilling depth is 61 m, the water is in 45 m. During the drilling there was a layer of pure limestone till the depth of 18 m. It was followed by rubble or fissure that caused the loss of pressure. This resulted in a hammer jamming by unremoved crushed stone. We resolved this situation by pulling the drill string out and cleaning the borehole.

The well was fitted with a foot pump. Since 2016 a new hand pump India has been installed.

2. Martha

Location:
Baie-de-Henne
GPS:
lat: 19.662379, lng: -73.204917
Status:
put into operation 20. 2. 2011
Depth:
21 m
The well is located in the courtyard of the elementary school in Baie-de-Henne. This school serves three hundred children. In the campus we have built two wells - Maria Goretti and Martha. The village has 2,000 inhabitants and serves as a centre for other approximately 8,000 inhabitants. Many of them come here every day for water. The well Marta mainly serves the needs of school kitchen.

The depth of the well is 21 m, water column is 15 m. When working on the well there was loose rock and soil to two meters of depth, then limestone up to 16 m and then saturated gravel. In the second half the drilling was difficult (at 20 m probably crack) - hammer was jamming, causing falling of walls. It was necessary to repeatedly pull the entire drill string out and clean the borehole.
